My last days in the Edinburgh flat before Christmas were lonely, empty and scary. I'd peek my head out my bedroom door at the bottom of the hall and look into the vast void of complete darkness; the lights from under my flatmates' doors are extiguished. The place is void of life. Draped in various layers of wool and bundled up tightly in my duvet, I drag my silk slippers along the endless hallway to the kitchen, and quietly make tea in a dark corner of the vacant kitchen. The ringing of the teaspoon echoes and is heard by the owls in the attic. I hold the tea close for warmth and take small sips, rolled up in my duvet looking suspiciously around me at every noise, I am like a hamster in hibernation. I decided at this point I should go to my mums for the Christmas break; there was nothing more to be done at the flat.

My brother collected me and helped me with my suitcases, but within five minutes of being parked in Edinbugh, the traffic-inspector-tickety people (who were hiding in some nearby foliage) issued my unfortunate brother a parking ticket. I bought him a McDonalds as compensation.

What a contrast my mum's is to Edinburgh; warm, cosy and adorned charity shop purchases and photographs of cats. None of the lightbulbs work so our lives are lit soley by various lamps and candles. I love it though, it is perfect for drinking tea and snuggling up beside the cat with a book.

On the first day I plundered the bedroom and found thirty books, many of miscellaneous poetry, but also some French short stories and John Keats. Photographs, jewellery and clothes; my mothers room is just a hoard of memories kept in black bags. This made us remember her long time friend, and how they have lost touch due to memory loss and moving houses. They have no mutual friends, and we never did find out her new address and number; all was lost. Then the idea struck me, and I found what might be her in the phone book. I rang her number and we were met only with an unsettling still tone. Multiple attempts; to no avail. She lives enroute to Edinburgh from here, so I looked the address up in Google street view, perhaps I'll pay her a visit and leave her a letter. This is what scares me: the streetview for that particular group of flats is corrupt, and only (what i think is) her block.

Opening the flimsy bedroom curtains to behold a violent downfall of hail did not evoke much feelings of positivity this morning, alas, I pulled my black beret over jagged braids and made for the door. Outside, it seemed the wind wasn’t as boisterous as it looked from the window, so I unclutched my jacket and let my hands fall to my side and sauntered through the archway, but thats when it hit me; an unmerciful gust of wind grabbed me by the throat and thrust up my skirt and sent my jacket about my ears, all while little grains of hail struck my bare legs and face. Mortified, I pointed my head towards the gale and held my skirt down as I shamefully walked past the workmen who were whistling and cheering at having just seen my hold-ups and bright pink knickers with the polka dots.

I entered the florists looking sufficiently ravished by the weather, and left with a small bouquet of chrysanthemums for grandad. This caused amusement for my classmates as I walked into the library looking windswept and spider-lashed from the rain, clutching the bouquet, ready to study D.H Lawrence’s Odour of Chrysanthemums.

It's a good job I studied art for years before deciding to do literature. It is still something I am interested in and passionate about.

Yesterday, I discovered how much of a geek I really am when I said that the assignment "Took me in it's arms and kissed me passionately!"

I feel like a completely different person; I’ve been wearing darker lipstick, maybe too dark, but I don’t mind. I have to read that novel for uni in two days. I better get on with that instead of writing in here.

Edinburgh is so continental, with it’s overabundance of coffee shops and thrift shops - and it's lack of a Primark means everything I own is at the youngest six months old. I've been lost twice already in it's dark labyrinths, finding myself at the back door of a pub rather than the exit to the street I was going.

The university building is grand, and the tutors are inspirational; I couldn’t ask for more. Student flats are a bit like old folks homes, with health and safety signs and rubbish curtains, but I’ve made my home by making a thorough mess of my desk!

I have recently purchased very expensive things. That is something I don't do very often, and it feels rather strange.

1st thing: I bought the first months rent for my room in Edinburgh, just south west of the city centre and right next to a starbucks :D

2nd thing:

considering how unbelievably expensive public transport is within glasgow, it shouldn't take me too long to earn my bike back :D I was too nervous to get the 16inch wheels, so I got the 20inch. I might fall on my ass, but, at least I'll look cool ;D

Well to the people I know who read my blog, here is a summary of what has been happnin' these past few weeks. A certain student loan company *ahem* were being lazy and took TOO LONG to process my loan. By too long I mean two months. Since I could barely afford to get to college, nevermind buy 4 sketchbooks, inks, pens, pencils, glue, paints, prints of photographs, developing film, etc. So I left.

Then I went up to Aviemore with Helen, a woman in my college who is studying photography. She is so talented! The journey was shared with her boyfriend Pedro who was excellent - that could be because he is shit hot at making carrots and because he's scottish. I modelled an ancient wedding dress that got ripped to shreds climbing up grassy hills, and wading through endless piles of frost - in boots. I met new people who I will remember forever.(or maybe not because I drank so much wine) We chased chickens and shoved them through hatches and then ate chicken for dinner. Chickens fucking everywhere!

Then I come home to find a letter from the student loans place that says "you're loan is ready."

TOO LATE

So now my evenings consist of logging on to digital banking every twenty minutes!

I was bored and in serious need of a new set of photos, so I sat down with a pencil and the back of some old junk mail from ucas, and started writing random and irrelevant stuff about myself. My thoughts, my habits, my secrets and just scribbled them down honestly. I came up with these:

Govanhill Baths

I visited the old derelict Govanhill Baths to see the "Deep breaths" exhibition. There were so many artists involved(I felt so left out!). There were sculptures, photographs and paintings and also a nice coffee stall and charity shop to end the day. We were guided around by Andrew, who was excellent. I had the pleasure of modelling for Danielle, who's photos were displayed there, and they turned out excellent! I also stole a few shots of the bulding. What an excellent day.

So I made this pendant today, from copper. I fucked up so many times trying to solder it together, it kept falling OVER, and going FLYING, and getting bend out of shape, and ugh... just, I sucked, really.

But actually, I decided I like it better than perfect copper. I had the option to pickle it in a solution to get rid of the oxidation on the surface, but I love it the way it is. Imperfect and unique.

Misadventures

I think it's time for a generic update on things. Shall we?

1) I bought "Misadventures" by Sylvia Smith from Oxfam books on Byres Road. It was shelved under "modern fiction" but the first page said:

"Every story in this book is true. It was either
something I had experienced or heard about."

Doesn't that make it an autobiography or non fiction? I must be totally bored, cause I actually care about sections in a bookstore! It is amusing and detailed like Amelie or something, it satisfies my pointless, nosey desire to know about other people's lives.

2) I started a new sketchbook. It is empty.

3) My mp3 player broke, so I now need to start listening to traffic, the pedestrian crossing beeping, dogs, cats, buses, neds.

4)I bagged a job at the Art Lover's Cafe, so I am employed which is excellent. Everyone has been so nice and it's really pleasant to work in. Still obviously the "new girl" who is lost and gets things wrong.. but give it time.

5) Last night, me and Ams watched David Lynch's Lost Highway, and couldnt figure it out. I haven't given it much thought yet. There were a lot of boobs and I seen far too much of Bill Pullman's arse.

6) At the moment I am at my mothers waiting on my work uniform drying. By that time, It will be too late to travel home, so I may have to leave from here in the morning. I have no texts to I hope Ams doesn't worry.

My life at this point in time (8:39pm Wednesday (GMT) - Time in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom) is rather exciting, worrying, sexual, pierced and swollen, and slightly uncomfortable.

Creativity is soaring, and I’m glad it is because I have an assignment to do. Still life. How can that be made interesting? By being surrounded by strange people, who own strange things, Such as plastic ducks, sculptures of boobs, various engine parts, plastic dolls and fairy lights shaped like rude things.

I'll be back to share more pointlessness with you all.
